Why That Negative Situation May Be A Blessing In Disguise

YESTERDAY, MY HUBBY WAS ON THE PHONE WITH HIS FATHER AND HAD HIM ON SPEAKER PHONE.

Somehow, they got into a conversation about how to raise my son.

His father kept saying something along the lines of, your son could be great, you have to teach him, you have to read to him, you have to show him how to learn, listen to me – I am teaching you all how to raise your kid kind of vibe.

For some reason I was taking everything that he said very personal. We do all of those things and more, and my hubby’s father assuming that we didn’t, really bothered me.

On top of that, he had a really stern tone, and was saying all those things as if we weren’t raising our child right.

It started to get under my skin, so I walked away for a moment and I thought to myself, why am I attracting this kind of situation? Why am I attracting a phone call where it seems as if his father is downing our parenting skills?

I shrugged my shoulders and forgot about it for the night. But today, while I was in the shower, the thought came back to me.

WHY HAD I ATTRACTED SUCH A NEGATIVE CONVERSATION?

Another thought occurred to me right after that.

Where did I recently feel like I wasn’t a good mother or a fit parent?

You see, I can tell when negativity shows up, that I must have been thinking something along those same lines.

So when the question above came up, I just smiled to myself and said, ohhhhhhh I was thinking that.

A FEW DAYS BEFORE THE INCIDENT, I HAD GOTTEN REALLY UPSET WITH MY TODDLER, AND I YELLED AT HIM.

Obviously, I felt like shit because I had gone a little over board and didn’t control my anger.

Anyway, after I yelled at him, I started crying because I was so frustrated with myself.

I started saying things like, I can’t do this. I’m not built for this mom thing. I am losing my patience. I can’t manage this. I felt like an unfit mother.

Now those thoughts were way out of line, and I probably just needed a nap or something, but I could suddenly see where the negative situation with my hubby’s father stemmed from.

It stemmed from my thoughts and feelings about not being a good mother. So something showed up in my experience to amplify exactly what I felt.

DO YOU SEE HOW IT’S ALL CONNECTED?

If we dig a little deeper, the situation was showing me something even more profound.

It was showing me the ability I had to recognize and respond differently to the situation.

Just like I recognized that the conversation with his father was a bit off key, and I walked away. I could have done the same thing when I got frustrated with my son.

It was showing me that I have the ability to respond differently – in any situation. I don’t have to wait until a situation gets out of control or something negative shows up to beat me over the head.

IT WAS AN EXCELLENT LESSON, AND A BLESSING IN DISGUISE.

I believe that all the things that show up in our life, have something to teach us. Sometimes we miss the lesson, but I got this message loud and clear.

When a negative situation shows up in your life next time, see how the situation makes you feel, and then ask yourself, where in my life have I felt this same way lately?

With just that little bit of investigating, you’ll see where the situation stems from, and you’ll be able to do something about the root cause of it.

The root cause usually has something to do with how you feel about yourself. That situation that is appearing in front of you is just amplifying something that you are holding inside.

RECOGNIZE IT, LAUGH AT IT, AND THEN COMMEND YOURSELF FOR BRINGING IT TO YOUR AWARENESS.

We can’t change how other people act, but we can change our response to it. We can’t make other people value us, but we can remove the parts within our own self where we degrade and speak negatively towards ourselves.

{TWEETABLE} Change in your inner world leads to change in your outer world. #soulguidance

Remember that. Empower yourself. Shift what you say to yourself and how you treat yourself.

An Easy Way To Access Your Inner Treasure

The easiest way to access your inner treasure is to go straight to the source.

Envision that you are at a door.

You are holding the key.

When you allow yourself to go inside, envision that a light turns on and allows you to see all of your riches before you. Imagine there are many books with knowledge on every subject, healing crystals, valuable minerals, jewels, and anything else that you would like to have access to.

Imagine there is a seat in the middle of this space for you to contemplate.

Ask yourself both of the following questions:

What makes me worthy of all of this? (All the knowledge and riches you see before you?)

or

What makes me unworthy of all of this? (What’s stopping you from accessing the riches and knowledge that is there?)

For those of you who feel unworthy to access your inner treasure, meditate on those two questions and share the answers with yourself or someone you trust.

Sometimes we don’t realize that we are the ones that hold ourselves back from the inner richness that is our soul. We don’t even realize that we are doing it. Start to examine all the things that tell you that you are unworthy, and try to find some reasons why you are worthy of it.

For example you can say, I am worthy of this richness of knowledge because I am compassionate. I know that I will share this information in ways that will enrich peoples’ lives.

It’s also very interesting to come face to face with all the energy that you have trapped inside about not being worthy.

As you start to allow yourself permission to access this space (which is rightfully yours), you will begin to see things change in your life. Acknowledge and appreciate any change (big or small). Keep going to this space and clearing out space in your mind for you to receive your richness. It’s a beautiful thing to experience.

Let me know how your experience goes with this tool.

Soul Guidance – Evolution Through Dreamwork

Dreamwork

There are many things that help guide us through life

One of the ways that I receive my guidance is through my dreams.

It is so interesting to see aspects of yourself change in your dreams as you work to change your habits and thoughts in your real life.

For example, through working with my dreams, I have discovered that my grandmother (the guardian who raised me), has had a major influence on my life. My grandmother was very strict, she didn’t allow me to express, and she was a very strong (emotionless – in some ways) woman.

Anytime I go to express myself or show my emotions in real life, that aspect of me comes up and stifles that expression. I learned through working on my dreams that, that kind of tough feminine aspect hinders my creativity from expressing fully.

If you were taught to never show your emotions, never cry, never say I love you, or give hugs – etc, when you go to share something as intimate as your creativity with the world, that strict and restrictive upbringing plays a huge role in holding you back.

I no longer blame my grandmother for that aspect of myself

Yes, she influenced it, and how I was raised influenced me to deny my feminine qualities. However, I am of age and fully capable of understanding how it affected me, and I can change it.

So when I go through my day to day life, I recognize when I am experiencing that “grandmother” part of me. I can feel it. So I change it. I tell myself a different story. I empower myself to think differently, and the real magic happens when you see that aspect of yourself evolve in your dreams.

I had a dream one time that my grandmother came up to me, put her arms around me, and told me she was proud of me. She also mentioned (in the dream) that she was excited for all of the possibilities that my life had to offer.

Seeing that transformation in her in my dreams linked directly to me changing my attitude about myself and my life. My grandmother rarely did such a thing when she was living. But as I changed some of that strict patterning within myself – it showed as my grandmother more accepting of me, my femininity, my possibilities, and my dreams.

It’s truly remarkable to work with your dreams. What higher guidance can you receive other than that coming from your higher self?

Another aspect that I am working on sorting out is the “God Father” aspect of myself

My “God Father” in my dreams usually shows up as this middle aged Italian man, with lots of money, and I have in the past – avoided him at all costs in my dreams.

That “God Father” aspect is one that I have struggled with because I believe on some level that money is the root to all evil, and that in order to get the kind of success that I want – I need to do illegal things. That is the perception (through my life experience), that I picked up.

The “God Father” aspect is one that is needed in your life. God the father – the male aspect of myself responsible for supplying my needs, protecting me, and providing what I need to make it comfortably through life.

Through out the years that part of me has shown up as many different men in my dreams, but he always has that “don” or “God Father” type energy in the dream. He wears different faces, but I can tell that the male figure has the same essence each time.

Just recently however, in one of my dreams – I actually went to visit my God Father!

What a transformation

As I accept that I come from a large, dominant, wealthy family (spiritually), I change that aspect of myself. I saw the change in my dream the other night.

I am more accepting of the flow of abundance, receiving help, and the male aspect of my personality. So it actually showed me welcoming an interaction between my God Father and I, in the dream. Guess what? He asked me if I needed any money, and was going to write me a $50,000 check.

Try it

Take one of the characters that shows up in your dreams frequently and write down your description of them. Then ask yourself, where are you acting like that in your life? Or in what ways may that type of personality affect your real waking life? As you work to change that aspect, you will see that same character or another character with the same essence show up in your dreams to show the changes that you have made.

It’s very intriguing.

I hope you start to work with your dreams as a way to peel back your layers. Peeling back the layers helps expose the true you.

Thank you for reading!

Self Love – Changing The Way You See Yourself

Perception

I REMEMBER SEARCHING YOUTUBE VIDEOS FOR PREGNANCY VLOGS WHEN I WAS PREGNANT LAST YEAR.

I came across the vlog of a beautiful girl. I loved tuning in to her vlog because she would give you a week by week summary of everything that was going on with her body, love life, and social life as she progressed with her pregnancy.

There was one video that she posted, and half way through she started crying. She mentioned that she didn’t feel attractive, she felt ugly, and didn’t feel like herself. I paused the video and started yelling at the video (as if she were there in person). Are you crazy? I yelled at the screen. You are beautiful, certainly attractive, and you have a glow that no one could take – even if they tried, I continued

Now I fully understand that her hormones were raging, someone probably said something to upset her, and she probably just needed to take a quick nap.

The point that I am trying to make is that her impression of herself in that moment, was not what I (a spectator on the other end of the screen) was seeing.

THERE ARE SO MANY FACTORS THAT GO INTO HOW WE VIEW AND PERCEIVE OURSELF.

9 times out of 10 – how you are viewing yourself – is not the way someone else is. Your attitude is a factor, how your day went is a factor, your perceived flaws plays a factor, the damn lighting in the room plays a factor. I am not just referring to physical beauty either. I am referring to your personality as well. One friend might see you as an egotistical maniac when those same qualities to another friend may translate as a strong, confident, go-getter.

This topic is about self love, but we cannot deny that we are largely effected by outside influences. We work on self-love by getting an accurate picture of what we are paying attention to. Once you understand that people’s opinion of you has more to do with their upbringing, their preferences, and their appetite, you can then get on with changing your opinion about yourself to fit your true nature and not the scanty version of yourself that people want you to believe you are.

I HAVE AN EXERCISE FOR YOU.

I want you to take several different pictures of yourself. Take a photo with your camera phone, change rooms and take another photo with that same camera phone. Next take a photo of yourself with your computer camera, try a friend’s or a family member’s phone next. Take several pictures and adjust the light to different settings in each room. Once you are done, bring all the pictures together in one place (ex. email them to yourself). Pull them up on the computer screen and then look at them.

Imagine each camera lens is a different person viewing you. You will have some pics where the lighting is just right. You will have some pics where you didn’t pose as much as you would have liked. You will have some pics that make you want to hit the delete button immediately, but you will get the point.

WE NEED TO START SEEING OURSELF DIFFERENTLY.

That means cultivating new ways to bring out our true beauty, letting other people’s opinions of us slide by without a second thought, and really seeing ourselves in a new light. You are beautiful. Some of you may not feel you are beautiful in the traditional sense, but your beauty has more to do with how you feel about yourself than any scale in a magazine. Your beauty is more than your eye color, the size of your waist line, or the number on the scale.

You are a living, breathing, thinking, reasoning, functioning – on many different levels, human being. If that isn’t beautiful – I don’t know what is. Think of your ability to get up each day, to move through life, to keep your spirits up despite all the drama that can show up in your life. All of that is beauty.

THE PURPOSE OF MY POST IS TO LET YOU KNOW – I AM HUMAN JUST LIKE YOU.

I too have had very bad days. I have cursed myself out, called myself ugly, and perpetuated internal racism that no one should put themselves through. I have been through my deepest critical moments, and I have had to learn (slowly but surely) how to see myself differently.

I am not claiming to be a guru that is perfect and that can change your whole life. That’s not me. I am not Iyanla Vanzant and this is not Iyanla Fix My Life. I don’t want to be that. What I can offer though, is my insight. That’s it. I can tell you that I have been through alot, and the purpose of me sharing my thoughts with you guys is so that you can see that we are all human.

Self Love is about taking small steps towards filling yourself up on the inside so that it radiates on the outside. It’s about giving yourself the benefit of the doubt, noticing your beauty, noticing your relevance here, and owning who you are (without apologies).

I SHARE THIS MESSAGE BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT NEEDS TO HEAR THIS. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!

If you are here reading this, take this as a sign, from your higher self. You are being called to explore your total beauty. Not just what you have been taught “beautiful” is.

Thanks for reading.

Inner Work – The Part Of Ourself That Blocks Our Blessings

Blocking Your Blessings

I was studying one of my dreams, and it pointed me in the direction of something that I need to face within myself.

I’m sure alot of you face this same issue from time to time.

We all want the best out of life, we pray for more blessings, for healing, and to have our spirits uplifted, but we sometimes don’t realize that we block the very things we are praying for.

I mean, how comfortable have you gotten with telling yourself you can’t do something, it can’t be that easy, or that you don’t have the support you need? We stay wrapped in that frame of mind so much that when the blessings do come, we can’t recognize them.

When you are angry, upset, or feeling down – the last thing that you want to hear is some Pollyanna Princess or Mr. Do Good telling you to let things go or to cheer up. Their messages are so clear and they give you a direct route to the answers that you have been seeking, but you are in such a bad mood sometimes that you don’t even realize what’s being spoken – so clearly.

Have you ever been there?

We must understand that our prayers are always being answered – always. We just aren’t attuned to hearing the solutions all of the time.

An answer to one of your prayers could be as simple as someone saying,

Believe

Think of how many times you have listened to a positive quote for a minute and then your mind switched back to all of the reasons why you couldn’t honor that positive quote. Your responses may sound something like this, “I’m too tired, I’ve tried everything, I’ve prayed endlessly, I’ve done this, this, and that, I see no future for me.”

Just Stop For A Minute!

Recognize what you are doing…

Someone said to you as clear as day, “Just believe in yourself”.

That’s it. That was your only task. It was the answer, and you took a different route, backpedalled through your past, and then drew the conclusion that the “positive talk” was bullshit because you attracted a situation that confirmed all the negative thoughts you were thinking.

If you would have turned those negative thoughts around and really believed in yourself, you would have attracted a different circumstance, and then your conclusion would have been completely different.

Someone calls you beautiful, and you shy away from the compliment. Someone leaves a nice comment on one of your pages, and you wonder what their “real” intention is for leaving such nice words. Someone offers you help, and you think it’s because they want or need something from you.

Why is it so difficult for us to just accept our goodness and our answers without the idea that something is going to go wrong, someone is out to get me, or this feeling won’t last long?

Why is it so hard for us to believe that we are the right person for the job, we are at the right place at the right time, and the resources to support us will line up once we get comfortable with that knowing?

Maybe someone stripped your joy away in the past. So you hold on so tight to certain things because you don’t believe that you are powerful enough or worthy enough to attract more things that bring you joy. Or perhaps someone told you that you would never make it. So you get the impulse to try something new, and then give up before it even has wings strong enough to fly.

You have to realize that there is higher part of you wanting nothing more than to link you with your goodness, power, and potential. But how many times do we repress this spirit because we don’t believe what it’s trying to tell us?

The bottom line is this…

If you have been asking, wishing, hoping, and praying for something, your answers are being delivered to you right here – right now.

Believe In Yourself

I didn’t say conjure old ideas about yourself. I didn’t say phone a friend to see if they agree. I didn’t say check with your brother, mother, or sister to see what their opinions are about you. I said, believe in yourself.

That means you have to find ways to honor and respect the totality of who you are, feel comfortable with who you are, and feel confident with the palette of life that has been laid before you. There is an infinite space of potential that we all have access to.

Anything can be created from the infinite – anything!

Set your true self free.

Inner Work – Our Hotel Self & Finding A More Permanent Residence

The Hotel Self

The purpose of my work on this site (my writing & Soul research), is to help cultivate the feeling of home.

my work here is to also help others link with their soul and to help find new ways to keep that flow going.

Home is the place where the soul resides. Where you feel 100% comfortable with yourself, what you do, and with finding your own path through life.

Part of my work is to point out parts of our character, our beingness, and our inner selves that we don’t know exist.

I do that by coming up with different ways to view different parts of the self.

The hotel self, is the part of you that feels comfortable, in love with, and welcomed to the fullest parts of your being – only some of the time.

We treat our heartspace, our center of wellness, our inner city, or whatever you want to call it – as if it is a place that can only be accessed when we “do good”.

I pose the following questions…

Why do we reside in that space only temporarily? How do you define good and bad? And by whose standards is the good and bad in your life being compared to?

We should all be striving to find a permanent place of peace within ourselves – a sense of home.

Our hotel self however, sees glimpses of this goodness that we should have access to, and then we are right back to withholding and blocking the access to that goodness for whatever reasons.

We think that because we made decision that others don’t agree with – we don’t deserve the best of ourself. We think that because we have messed up or made a mistake in the past – we don’t deserve our consideration again.

Your soul is here to tell you,

You deserve the best of yourself at all times. No exceptions.

I remember a few months ago when I was pregnant, I received a beautiful surprise. I was invited to stay in a hotel with my husband while he tended to some business. I finally was about to get away from my routine of cooking, cleaning, and tending to my housewife duties. I remember feeling right at home when we entered the hotel room.

The room was nice and clean, beautifully furnished, and smelled like fresh linen scent. I remember having help at my finger tips (the front desk), and I could phone down to the cafeteria for anything that I wanted.

I couldn’t help but smile at myself when I passed the huge shiny mirror. I silently screamed to myself, girl you did it! You manifested a space where you can relax from your daily routine! Yes girl, you deserve it!

How long do you think those feelings of “deserving” lasted?

When I got back home from the weekend trip, I was right back to my normal state of being.

What needs to be done? How many dishes did I leave to be washed? How much can I get done, and in what period of time?

I had lost that feeling of home.

You see a part of me knows that I deserve to feel like that all of the time (pampered, catered to, help at my fingertips if I need it, beautiful, relaxed, etc). That’s why I got a glimpse of it in the form of a short trip to a beautiful hotel, but too often we (myself included – duh I said we), find any reason to hold back from our true selves.

We find every reason to justify why we don’t deserve nice things, why we don’t deserve help, or why we don’t deserve to have our desires answered at the press of a button.

How crazy is that?

This part of you that finds any excuse to deny your true self is the one hopping from hotel to hotel instead of appointing yourself as a top real estate agent, and finding yourself a permanent sense of home.

I have a few key points that can help you get on the path to cultivating a more permanent sense of home.

  • Home is a place that you can access at any time. It’s not a place where you only have access to it when you have done something good. You have the choice right now to give yourself the benefit of the the doubt, compassion, love, and care or you can withhold that from yourself because of some “wrong” you feel you have done. Becoming aware that the space is always available to you will help you connect to it more often. Once you know that something exists, you can turn in the direction of it more often.
  • There is a solution to every problem. Recognizing that will bring you right back to your center. It will bring you right back home. You have a host of angels (in human and in spirit form), that can make their way to you if you just believe that you are worthy of it. Feeling supported – is feeling at home.
  • Practice, practice, practice! So now you know that home is an inner job, you have access to it at all times, and it’s not keeping a tally of what you do that’s right or wrong. Practice visiting this space to help you come up with solutions, calm your spirit in times of trouble, feel confident, and to help you feel supported.

Home is the place where the best of you, your soul, and your goodness resides.

Practice accessing this space more frequently by trusting your intuition, turning your negative thoughts around, taking deep breaths more frequently, and appreciating every opportunity to connect.

The more ways that you learn how to connect, the easier it is to feel at home with your true nature.

Happy Home Hunting!

Inner Work – Centering Yourself

 GroundingYourself

I love the idea of “inner work”.

You know – building yourself up on the inside first.

It’s such a simple concept, but how many times do we try to change outside circumstances to no avail.

Changing your inner world allows for you to see the transformation of that “inner work” show up on the outside. It’s the work that I am digging deeper and deeper into everyday, and it’s fun to try and piece together my understanding of this profound insight. Today we are going to talk about grounding yourself.

The whole purpose of grounding yourself, is so that you can feel more secure in who you are, what you are made of, and what you have to offer to this world. Grounding yourself also allows for you to stabilize your energy so that when you go out into the world, external circumstances don’t disturb you as much or at all.

I am going to give you a few simple techniques that you can incorporate into your daily routine, that will help you feel more grounded.

Remember, the purpose of grounding yourself is so that you feel one with your true spirit, and so that the winds of change don’t wind you up so easily.

I am not going to tell you to sit in a cross-legged position, holding your hands together, for x amount of time, and to meditate. If I told you to do that, I would be a hypocrite, because I do not practice meditation (in the traditional sense), everyday.

Instead, I am going to give you some tips for grounding yourself that are easy to remember, easy to implement, without the frustration, and painless.

 #1 Standing Firm

  • Several times throughout your day, when you’re standing up and standing still, focus all of your energy to the soles of your feet. Act as if you are taking the energy from the top of your head, and pushing it down to the bottom of your feet. See how that feels for you. It should feel like you are not only standing on solid ground, but you should feel centered as well.

#2 Feel Your Stability

  • As you walk throughout your day, feel the stability of the ground beneath your feet. Take a few steps where you feel confident – meaning walk a little harder and more secure. You don’t have to scare anyone with your footsteps, just focus your attention on feeling how stable each of your steps is. Take into consideration that the ground is the “inner you” (stable, strong, and consistent). See how that feels to you. You should feel like you are walking on a solid platform at all times. Remember to practice this technique only when you are on a surface that feels secure (ex. concrete, a firm carpet, or a wooden floor).

#3 Pause

  • If you feel yourself getting tense throughout your day, stop for a few moments and take 3 deep breaths. I cannot explain to you how effective this technique is. Make sure when you breathe in, that you are breathing deeply, and make sure when you breathe out, that you are exhaling until you feel all the air is pushed out. Do this at a pace that is comfortable for you. It will work wonders. You should feel like you could revisit that space at anytime. You may even have a moment of appreciation throughout the day that you can use this technique with. You don’t have to do it only when you are feeling tense. The purpose of the technique is for you to realize where your center is, and to draw you back to the present moment or to help you appreciate the present moment more fully.

#4 The “Soul and I” Mantra

  • When you are lying down, preferably right before bedtime, place your hand on your heart and repeat this phrase.

My Soul and I Are One – Align My Thoughts With That Fact.

  • Say that phrase as many times as you need to before you allow yourself to drift to sleep. The reason we are doing this right before you go to sleep is because your mind tends to relax right before bed, and is more receptive to certain ideas. Also, you acknowledging that you would like to align your thoughts with your soul, calls forth new ideas and things that will help you do that. It truly is a remarkable tool.

You see, I told you the tips would be painless.

You can use any one of these techniques at anytime. Use your creativity, and design the times where you think they will work best for you. After some practice, you’ll notice that they just come naturally to you, and before you know it, centering yourself will come naturally too.

Thank you for reading!
